AUTOMOBILE. 100 years of the automobile in Val Bregaglia

Language navigation

Exhibition information:

2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the lifting of the ban on cars in the canton of Graubünden. The two-part AUTOMOBILE exhibition makes use of objects, road maps, brochures, historical film footage, photos and publications to offer a multifaceted overview of 100 years of the automobile in Val Bregaglia and Graubünden. In keeping with the theme, prominent space is also given to the postcard – as in the past and as will be the case again in future exhibitions. The thematic area is broadened to include contemporary artists.

The Maloja international hill climb race (1938–1952) will also be featured in the exhibition. The legendary “Course au Maloja” was captured in 1948 in an oil painting by the artist Varlin (Willy Guggenheim, 16 March 1900 – 30 October 1977). On 1 September 1952, a motorsport tradition came to an end in Graubünden, as the Maloja hill climb was held for the last time in Val Bregaglia.
