Videocity x Beatenberg “James Stephen Wright: Based On & Maintained By Illusion”
Exhibition information
James Stephen Wright was the first artist invited to the Videocity Residency in Beatenberg. Aim: to draw inspiration from the mountain village, with its wonderful panoramic view, for a new artistic work. Equipped with a drone and a video camera, he roamed the village, hiked down to the St. Beatus Caves and Lake Thun, and hiked up towards Niederhorn. He also went shopping in the local shops. That’s how he came across the bakery and the Bel-Air Tea Room.
Master baker Arnold Schmocker took over the old building more than 40 years ago. Today, it is still the only bakery in the village. Along with Heinz, Andreas and Damaris, he gets up at 1 a.m. every day to bake bread and cakes.
An advertising figure stands in front of the shop. The special feature is that it consists of a number of baked goods. James Stephen Wright sets this advertising character in motion in his works of art and opens up new possibilities for it.
- Thanks to new technology, tea room guests can now dance virtually with the “Bakerman” and load a selfie onto their mobile phone (see QR code on the postcard).
- You can purchase a limited edition or a photo as a souvenir or send a postcard.
Show the “Bakerman” the big wide world or your home.
